Inside Ocean Art Lantern’s Factory
We design and manufacture custom lantern displays in Zigong, China. Our team shapes the frames, fits the fabric and brings the illuminated designs together, with transport and installation organised around your project.
Room to Make the Whole Idea
Our factory brings people, materials and large forms into the same working space. A character can be assembled at full scale while craftspeople work on its individual surfaces and details.
Ocean Art’s broader manufacturing business began in 2009 and now operates across approximately 30,000 m², with more than 100 professionals working across our different product lines.
Growing in Zigong
First workshop: approximately 1,000 m².
2015: expanded to approximately 4,000 m².
2016: approximately 10,000 m².
Late 2023: moved into the larger production operation.
Our Zigong lantern team brings design, fabrication and project preparation into one working process.
From Shaped Metal to Illuminated Colour
Shape and Join the Frame
Our metalworkers bend and join wire and steel to establish each lantern’s outline. Curves, connection points and assembly divisions turn a drawing into a physical form that the fabric team can build on.
Fit the Fabric by Hand
Our craftspeople fit fabric around the shaped frame, working through curves, joins and surface details. Petals and other layered forms need careful handling so the finished subject keeps its shape and colour.
Bring Shape, Colour and Light Together
Assembly brings the separate elements into one display. We review the appearance and lighting before preparing the sections for packing, transport and installation, so manufacturing decisions carry through to the finished lantern.

Different Skills, One Finished Lantern
Your design passes between people with different practical skills. Designers develop the subject and proportions; the technical team works through how the form will be made; metalworkers and surface artists build the individual parts.

Production coordination brings the workshop stages together, from shaped components to finished surfaces.
Project delivery connects production with packing, transport and the installation work agreed for your venue.

We brought an illuminated lion lantern to our booth at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The layered face, bright fabric colours and lotus details gave visitors a close look at how our lantern craft turns a character into a glowing display.
