Custom Dragon Lanterns Made by Ocean Art Lantern

We turn dragon themes into handcrafted lantern installations, shaping the head, flowing body, colours and lighting around your project. Explore our workshop photographs, from coiled blue dragons to long floral compositions.

Dragon forms from our workshop

A raised head, a sweeping body or a floral surface changes the character of a dragon. These views show different works and close details to help you choose the expression and silhouette for your setting.

The details behind the finished dragon

We develop the overall silhouette first, then refine the face, surface pattern and light. Wire shaping defines small contours; the main frame and supports are designed for the size, pose and installation conditions.

Build expression into the head

The angle of the brows, the muzzle and the sweep of the whiskers all affect the dragon’s expression. Our making process combines shaped wire contours, fitted fabric and colour work to develop these features.

The daylight photograph shows the finished facial shaping and painted transitions before the lighting becomes the main focus.

Overlapping scale patterns and contrasting fins remain visible across the curved body.

Carry the scale pattern around the curve

Scale spacing and colour transitions need to follow the body rather than flatten its shape. We consider the pattern, fabric colour and internal light together so the curve reads as one continuous form.

Light placement is developed around the surface depth and frame, with day and night appearance checked against the agreed design.

Raised petals sit over the coloured body surface, giving the floral decoration depth.

Add depth with layered decoration

The floral work uses raised petals and leaves over a coloured body surface. These details give close-up views a different texture from a scale-led dragon.

For your design, we can develop the flower shapes, colour palette and their placement as part of the whole composition.

Make the dragon fit your setting

We can develop a single focal piece or a dragon within a larger lantern scene. The pose, decoration and delivery plan are worked out together.

Pose and proportions

A coiled form concentrates the composition; a long, rising-and-falling body spreads it across a wider view. We adapt the head direction, body curve and proportions to the available space and main viewing angles.

Colour and surroundings

Choose the character through scale patterns, floral details and warm or cool colour combinations. Flower lanterns and animal lanterns can be developed as accompanying elements.

Sections and delivery

For large forms, we plan transport sections and connection positions during design, allowing for loading, site access and reassembly. Head details, whiskers and surface decoration need appropriate protection during packing.

We can take the work from design and manufacture through packing, transport and agreed installation. The project scope sets out foundations, power connections, installation equipment and the work to be handled by your local team.

Dragon lantern questions

Can you make a dragon from our reference image?

Yes. We use your reference to develop the pose, head expression, surface decoration and colours into a manufacturable design. Your preferred size, main viewing side and setting help us establish proportions. References containing protected characters or brand artwork also need the relevant permission.

Can a dragon be combined with flowers or other lanterns?

Yes. We can compose the dragon with flowers, animals or other theme elements, coordinating their scale, colours and lighting. The floral dragon above shows one way decoration can become part of the dragon itself; separate surrounding lanterns are another design option.

How is a large dragon transported and assembled?

We determine section sizes and connection positions before production, using the transport route, loading limits and venue access. Modules and interfaces are identified for reassembly, with protection for projecting details. Installation methods, equipment and local responsibilities are agreed for the project.

What affects the price of a custom dragon lantern?

The main factors are overall size, number of pieces, shape complexity, surface detail, lighting configuration and the work included in delivery. Packing, transport and installation can change the total substantially. Our cost and quotation guide explains how to compare a clearly defined scope.

Will the dragon look good in daylight as well as at night?

We develop both appearances. In daylight, the face, fabric finish, painted details and surface layers carry the design. After dark, internal light changes how colours and curves read. We check these views against the agreed artwork and colour references during production.

What needs to be considered for outdoor installation?

The design needs the location, available footprint and height, ground conditions, local weather, power arrangements and visitor distance. These affect the frame, supports, electrical protection and maintenance access. A curved dragon shape does not itself establish walk-through clearance; any public passage is designed and confirmed separately.

Let’s shape your dragon lantern

Send us a reference you like, the approximate size and a photograph or plan of the setting. We can discuss the form, finish and work needed to bring it to your venue.
